[ARCHIVED] Central Transit Announces New App

Transit App

Central Transit is excited to announce a new app that will allow riders to track buses and better schedule trips around Ellensburg.

Transit is a mobile app that provides real-time predictions, telling you when your bus will arrive, the smartest and fastest trip plans, and a step-by-step navigator when going to unfamiliar destinations. With the Transit app, riders can always know when their bus will arrive.

City Transit Manager Betsy Dunbar said one of her first tasks as a new hire was to ride Central Transit and evaluate the system.

“As I evaluated the route schedules, rode and followed the buses, spoke with transit riders and listened to their feedback, I learned that sometimes it was difficult to know when the bus was going to arrive,” Dunbar said. The new Transit app will allow riders to view the current location of the bus, as well as receive service alerts when there are delays or detours in a more efficient manner than the previous software. SMS and IVR services will also be available. Just talk or text your bus stop number and updates will be received by text or voice recording.

Each bus has been equipped with software that sends location data to the Transit app every 10 seconds allowing riders using the app to see in real time where their bus is located and when it will arrive.

The Transit app is available for free download on the Apple Store and Google Play.
